RebelNet started life as a bunch of trial and error, learn on the go, scruffy and insecure Windows based UnrealIRCd's. There has been many name changes over the years before RebelNet came to be, mostly during the Learn on the go stage. Sometime around late 2006 early 2007, SCM from New Zealand and MJP from the Netherlands, both whom had met through their mutual interest in IRC, started discussing the idea of linking their two servers.
